I bought this book since my son is a competitive basketball player, going into high school. The book is well-written with personal author experiences that draws in the reader. After being in the stands with other basketball parents for 4 years, I can relate to each type of parent mentioned in this book.
The author is intelligent and athletic, which is a rare combination, excelling in education with a PhD and excelling in his basketball playing/coaching career.
I really enjoyed many of the quotes that he used throughout the book, as I can personally relate to many of them.
It addressed many aspects of over-stepping your child's desires and ability in competitive sports. Not every child will make it to the NBA, NFL, MLB professional player status. And, I have seen many parents pushing kids from an early age to be the best in order to get a college scholarship, and play in the pros. This book discusses those pitfalls and mental stain on kids when they fall short of their parent expectations.
One of my favorite quotes cited in this book is “Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.” - Maya Angelou
And, Dr. Coach has done just that with this book. He did better!
